BOOKWORMS
Bookworms is a reading program that is being used schoolwide to increase student reading fluency and comprehension. The program has components that extend higher-level readers and components that support struggling readers. In the EIP Classroom, our focus is the support of struggling readers. The program components we use will focus on phonics skills and fluency. We will work on filling in gaps that the students have in phonics that hinder them in becoming fluent readers. The goal of the program is to aid students in becoming grade-level proficient readers.
The students rotate through 3 areas (Rotations are 15mins. each). 1)Small Group (teacher focused lessons), 2)iRead (computer based, prescriptive support lessons), and 3)Independent Written Response (Students write about a book that is being read in their homeroom and review this writing in their homeroom the following day).
